As a new user I have a few questions which I could not answer via google or search.
Midi:
when I connect a external synth and map some controls, can I save this as preset to use this external synth with the controls also in another project or do I have to do this again? Have not seen this in the edit menu.
Samplelist:
Any randomisation for samples? I find it always weird that the first task is to select the samples to use before I even know what I want to do. If I like to replace samples I have to replace the samples manual.
Can there be a option to just load another sample from the same folder? I like the happy accident combinations which can happen with this without going throuch all the samples…
Samplelist to “folder list”:
Maybe it would be nice to add a folder to a line, then it picks a random sample. And in the edit screen instead of selecting the sample list it can be just a reroll for new sample.
I think it is visible that I like random things for happy accidents and I am not a person who goes to the device and knows what I want now.
Would have also expecter there is a random sequence thing.
Like a fast random puls+reset+nudge without the octave. Or even random note list.
Sorry for the long blabla, I hope I not just have overlooked functions.
Yes, the way to do this is save an “instrument” preset in [files]. Then it will save the MIDI channel/CC/label of each control including the current value and any assigned modulators. Then later on if you want to use it in a project:
open a track on which you want to use the MIDI device
press [files] and find the *.inst you created earlier
press [yes] to load it
If you always use the same MIDI synthesizer you can also put it in your template project on a specific track. You can do that by creating a project called template in the projects folder.
If you put the note select parameter in the sequencer on random or markov the sample list triggered by that pulse will also select random samples on each note.
If you want “fixed random” where the samples are randomized once, but then play the same order each time, you can go into a sample list, press [edit] and select shuffle list to randomly change the order of the list.
You can load load multiple sample (or a whole folder at once) by holding down shift and scrolling though the folder to select the samples. Then press [yes] [yes] to load and a lot of samples can be added to a list at once.
If you have a nice pattern going you can hold [shift] and turn the sequencer knobs such as interval or reset. This changes that value for all pulses which creates new rhythms. It is not quite an instant random button, but it does create new and often unexpected variations on patterns.
You can add all notes in a scale to a note list and then shuffle the note list.
Hi Ward, many thanks for taking the time to reply this fast.
Got it, thats great, thanks.
Sorry, maybe I was not clear. Quad engine for example, usually you have one kickdrum, one snare and 2 hi hats maybe split by the lines. I would not load all 500 kicks in the list and have them all play through, random or not. I think you would need 4 lists with each only one sample. Or you can load all kicks in a list, but only one will be played and if you want to try another you press something and it activates another one and switches off the other one… I just thought there might be a shortcut to not manually having to change the sample lists all the time, but rather have something automatically load other samples into the list to explore samples which I might not would have manually selected.
On PC I use Playbeat from audiomodern for this, but I like the tactile feel rather just clicking mouse… hehe.
